A Sunrise Crane Lift in the Heart of Old Town Warrenton

Replacing a commercial rooftop HVAC system in the middle of a busy downtown is one of the more demanding jobs in our trade. When it sits above a Main Street storefront in Old Town Warrenton, with no way to move a heavy rooftop unit up through the building, the only way up is over the top, with a crane.

The Challenge

The building sits right in the heart of Old Town Warrenton, surrounded by active shops and narrow street parking. The new Trane commercial rooftop unit was far too large and heavy to bring up through the building, so it had to be lifted several stories into the air and set precisely onto the roof, with as little disruption as possible to the neighboring businesses and morning foot traffic.

Our Approach

We planned the lift for sunrise. Our crew arrived before the town woke up, coordinated with a professional crane operator, and set up traffic control to keep the street safe and clear. Working at first light meant we could rig and hoist the unit while the sidewalks were quiet and the shops were still closed.

With the crane in position, the new Trane rooftop unit was carefully rigged, lifted up and over the storefronts, and guided down onto its curb on the roof. Precision matters here. A rooftop unit has to land square on its mounting so the connections line up cleanly and the system seals properly against the elements.
